Tulips from Amsterdam (or somewhere)

We had lunch at the intimidating sounding International Anthony Burgess Foundation which just happens to have a splendid (if rather hot in the glaring sun) cafe.  There were some beautiful tulips on the table which were calling out to be photographed.  The actual red background was much more saturated and intense than in my finished photo, but impressive as it was, it just didn't work in the photo.  I find too much solid, flat red difficult to work with and it somehow always looks very odd.

Whole Lotta Love

I came across this great little scene while in a dull Manchester on Saturday and thought that it would make a great print, so here it is!

Above us only sky.

I took some photos off the terrace a couple of weeks ago of a spectacular sky, both blue and pink.  I forgot all about them until today when I applied a little magic to them and turned them into two new prints!

A new floral digital collage sheet.

I've made a new digital collage sheet today and it's full of gorgeous flowers.  There are eight images each repeated six times in a neat 1" square.

Happy Birthday Certificate

I've been playing around with this idea for a while and have finally got my act together to actually produce something for my shop.

It's a Happy Birthday Certificate card where the appropriate names will be added in to make a unique card.  It started life as an emailable birthday card which Peter and I would send when we had not been organized enough to post a card to someone and often printed out as an A3 poster to hand deliver as well and always with very good responses.

I can't quite work out how to market the poster version, which would be on A4 paper so that's why I started to make the card.

Here it is and I'd love to know what you think.

A new range of print sets is born!

I had a stroke of inspiration from somewhere to make a new line of print sets with six images 5"x5" square with a white border for easy framing.  Each set will be of a similar colour palate and where possible somehow related by subject.

This set was all photographed in Crete and is gently brown toned.  Most of the pictures are from the Arkadi Monastry which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been with softly lit courtyards, sleepy cats and ancient olive oil jars.  I really like the white borders, they add a certain something!

Yellow and White Daisy

Here's one of the pictures which I've included in my new Floral Calendar for 2011.  It's a photograph which I took a couple of years ago when I spent a lovely afternoon taking pictures in the beautiful garden of friends in Cheshire.  I've retreated it with some gentle textures to make it look a little battered which I think suits the flower (NOT a weed!) very well!  It's now available in my shop as a print as well as part of my calendar.

Clevedon Pier

I've reworked a photo which I shot way back in 2007. I love to rediscover photos which didn't really work for me at the time of shooting but have something to offer later. This was actually shot on a beautiful day with a perfect blue sky with fluffy white clouds and I really like how it's now moody and stormy!

Lost For Words?

It's been a while since my last blog post......quite a lot's happened since then and I've let things slip a bit on the blogging front!  Anyway as a small attempt to make up for it here's a photograph I shot on a grand day out in Liverpool last week.  We went with friends to see the Picasso exhibition at the Tate which was followed by a long and tasty lunch at the newly opened Jamie's Italian.  I've only just started to sort through the photos from that day and here's a taster!

Thinking of the seaside.

It seems like such a long time since I've been to the sea.  I don't mean nice warm foreign sea where you can drink chilled white wine and eat octopus while moaning about the small size of the sunshades, I mean the English seaside, with warm cold drinks, rock, pebbles poking you in the back and bad toilets.

While feeling romantically nostalgic for something I don't like at all I have rediscovered some photos of beach huts I took on the Isle of Wight a few years ago and after hours and hours of trying to make them look beautiful, I think I have finally succeeded!

Here's my first one, a beautiful red and white example of the Great British Beach Hut, the place where you recover from the beach!  Click here for more beach huts.

Cool Stone - a brand new print from Eyeshoot Photography.

Here's another rediscovered shot from my archives.  I've given it a subtle treatment with texture layers which accentuate the feel of the stone.

Matted print sale at my Etsy shop.

I've found a stack of matted prints which I made up when I first thought about selling my work. I matted them myself with nice off white surrounds which measure 30 x 25.7cm (11.81" x 10.12"), the image is 19.5 x 24.6 cm (7.67" x 9.68") and the matt is 2.7cm (1.06") wide.

They can all be found in the Sale Section of my shop.

Wisteria

Wisteria - $35 from Eyeshoot Photography

I know it's not wisteria time yet here in the UK, we're barely into spring but I found this picture from last summer and decided to have a bit of a play with it. It fits in with my two new textured Spring Blossom pictures and I'm searching my archive for a fourth so that I can make a quartet of Mini Pictures which I think will make a really pretty set.

Flock Blocks!

Here's my Flock image made into a Mini Pictures Duo, the image is trimmed to fit over both blocks with a gap in the middle so that the image 'reads' clearly over the gap.  They look very nice indeed.   I'll be listing more Mini Pictures from now on in various combinations as well as singles.

Love is in the Air......

I've been having fun with some artful props making for the very first time, some images for the marketing frenzy of romance which is St Valentine's day.

I purchased a greedy number of packets of Lovehearts and borrowed a Scrabble set from a neighbour (thank you Amanda!), set up my little studio on the bedding box in the living room next to the mean shelf I laughingly call my study and played.  Here are some of the results.

I Heart You - The Evolution.

I've revisited one of my old Morocco graffiti images, it's one I've always liked for the both simplicity of sentiment and execution.  I've Photoshopped it to death, it's been cropped, layered, texturised and generally abused and I think I've improved the original.

Here are the before and afters.

Another go at Texturising.....

Here's my next effort with the texturising thing, I'm not so sure about this one. I've always liked the image but never quite been able to make it work, I've TtV'd it in the past but not really liked that either.

At least I'm learning some new PS stuff while I'm experimenting.

Cow parsley in the snow.

Yet again I'm having a go at the 'texture thing' which I'm so intrigued by. I've found some very interesting blogs with tutorials and links to plenty of free to use textures and I've found a set which I'll buy when I've got my head around the whole practice.

This is one of my recent snowy pictures and I think this looks quite nice (It's gained two hearts on Etsy from just five views in about an hour, which is pretty good!).

As well as the 'texture thing', I've been playing with the 'PS Action thing' as well.

This image was created following instructions from Coffee Shop using a texture from Shadowhouse Creations and I'm grateful to both creative people for sharing their techniques.
